Oregon Sees Decline in Roadway Fatalities

Roadway fatalities are heartbreaking. Every crash statistic represents a person, a loved one whose life was cut short. Our hearts are with anyone who has ever been impacted by a roadway incident. We stand with you.

At Oregon Friendly Driver, our mission is to help make Oregon’s roads safer for everyone, whether you’re behind the wheel, on a bike, or navigating the streets in any other way. We believe that safety starts with awareness, respect, and education. Through our Oregon Friendly Driver training, we work to build a culture of mindfulness and shared responsibility on the road. We educate people driving on how to share the road, be friendly, and prevent common crashes.

We have some positive news to share, news that brings us hope. According to the latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Oregon experienced a 20.7% decrease in crash-related fatalities over the past year. That’s a substantial drop, and it’s not just a number, it represents 20.7% fewer lives lost. These are people who are still with us today. That’s someone’s child who made it home from school. Someone’s grandparent who made it home for dinner. Maybe someone’s best friend, neighbor, or sibling that get to live another day.

This progress shows us that it is possible to improve statistics and change what is happening on our roads.

The job is not done yet. So far, in 2025, Oregon has lost 92 people on our roads. That’s 92 too many. We believe we can continue this positive trend and ideally, bring that number down to zero.

Every Oregonian has a role to play in reaching that goal. Whether you’re a seasoned driver or just learning the rules of the road, your actions behind the wheel. By taking the Oregon Friendly Driver training, you can be part of the movement to build safer streets for all. Let’s keep moving in the right direction together.

Be informed. Be aware. Be a Friendly Driver.
