We are a free resource dedicated to making our roads safer for everyone. By educating road users on how to confidently navigate roadways and make safe choices, whether behind the wheel or on foot, we aim to significantly reduce tragic crashes involving vulnerable road users and foster a more respectful and aware driving community.
The Oregon Friendly Driver Course is funded by the Oregon Dept. of Transportation and administered by Commute Options.

Who we are
Oregon Friendly Driver is a statewide effort designed to help drivers better understand the rights and responsibilities of all road users, making Oregon roads safer for all humans. The course aims to clarify the laws and infrastructure designed for ALL people – driving, walking, rolling, and bicycling, which can often confuse drivers.

Road SAFETY + Crash Reduction
To increase safety and reduce crashes for vulnerable road users by cultivating a culture of safety, respect, and awareness among all road users in Oregon.

Beyond Driver EDUCATION
Offering free in-person classes, webinars, and an online course, the program aims to educate drivers about best practices, laws, and techniques for safer road network navigation around people walking, people biking, people with disabilities and electric mobility users.

Oregon has the 8th highest traffic fatality rate in the country – with 1.45 roadway deaths for every 100 million miles traveled, according to data from the first half of 2022 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
