The Oregon Friendly Driver course aims to enhance road safety by educating drivers on driving responsibly with vulnerable users. Below is a brief overview of what participants will learn.
Oregon’s roads are used by many: people driving, people biking, people walking, and those using electric mobility devices. The Oregon Friendly Driver course is a free, vital resource designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to navigate Oregon roads safely and respectfully. Oregon Friendly Driver is funded by the Oregon Dept. of Transportation and administered by Commute Options.
What YOu will learn:
Understand the unique needs and challenges faced by people walking, people biking, people with disabilities, and those using electric mobility devices.
Learn how Oregon laws apply to people on bikes and other vulnerable road users, ensuring you’re compliant and informed.
Gain a deeper understanding of road design and how it impacts different users.
Learn to identify and avoid common crash situations like “right hooks,” “left crosses,” and “dooring” incidents while driving around people on bikes.
Master strategies for hazard perception, risk assessment, and safe road navigation with people on foot, bike, people with disabilities, and electric mobility users.
